Software Engineer, Python

Ncounter is supporting an ambitious investment firm as they continue to grow their in-house engineering capability. They’re looking for a Software Engineer with exceptional Python development skills to become the first dedicated engineer within a newly established team, working directly with an experienced technical leader to build the next generation of internal compliance applications.

This is a software engineering role first and foremost. While you’ll be working on applications that support compliance and surveillance teams, the focus is on building high-quality software rather than data engineering or AI development. You’ll take ownership of developing a modern internal dashboard used by business stakeholders, creating new features, improving usability, and delivering software that has a direct impact across the organisation.

You’ll spend the majority of your time writing Python, while also contributing to the front end using JavaScript. React is used internally, but experience with other modern JavaScript frameworks is equally welcome. You’ll work closely with users to understand their requirements and build intuitive interfaces that solve real business problems.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Excellent commercial Python development experience
  • Good JavaScript skills and experience building modern web applications or dashboards
  • Experience with React, Angular, Vue or another contemporary JavaScript framework
  • An understanding of user-focused application development and translating business requirements into intuitive interfaces
  • Experience working on internal business applications, financial platforms, or operational tooling would be advantageous
  • Exposure to financial dashboards, compliance systems, or regulated environments would be beneficial, but isn’t essential
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work closely with stakeholders across both technology and the business

This role offers the opportunity to explore AI-powered features in the future, but previous AI, LLM or data engineering experience is not a requirement. The priority is finding an outstanding software engineer with strong Python fundamentals and enough front-end expertise to build polished, user-friendly applications.
