The Mix Community Festival in Shaw Village Centre, West Swindon

ncounter today announces a brand new Community Festival, to be organised with local churches and other community groups in West Swindon.  ncounter will help to coordinate a wide range of activities and events at “The Mix” Community Festival, to be held on 16th May in Shaw Village Centre, West Swindon.

The Mix will give local community groups the chance to showcase their work, and provide opportunities for all ages to have fun and try something new – from circus skills to drama and sports including volleyball and football.  All ages will be involved, with everything from a “messy space” and bouncy castle to fashion, makeup and crafts.  Organisers are also seeking new talent for almost 3 hours of “open mic” sessions, intended to give local bands and soloists an opportunity to be heard.

ncounter’s performing arts groups will be performing their latest dance, singing, drama and puppetry throughout the day.  The event will begin at 11am and end at 8pm with an hour-long performance by professional drama group The Lacey Theatre Company, who are also leading drama workshops in the afternoon.  Young people will also be taking on a host of sponsored events to raise money for their chosen charity, Toybox, who work with street children in Latin America.

Brian Senior, director of ncounter, said: “We’re really pleased that so many community groups are joining in.  I think we’re all grateful to the many volunteers who make such a difference to the area - not just on this one day, but throughout the year.  We’re planning The Mix to ensure we give the many community groups serving the area a platform to show the amazing range of activities on offer.  As one of the main providers of out-of-school activities for teenagers in the area, we at ncounter are also looking forward to showcasing our work to a wider audience, and celebrating the talents of young people in West Swindon.”
