Rock the Planet: programme announced
ncounter today announced the preliminary programme for Rock the Planet, the major Festival to be held in Lydiard Park on the 12th July. The npower Rock the Planet festival will cater for over 1,000 people and run for 7 hours between 2 and 9pm. Entrance, sports, creative arts and main stage performances are all free thanks to sponsorship by npower.
Highlights on the main stage will be urban dance performances by young people from across Swindon and North Wiltshire, a live fashion show, and performances from local bands including Jeff Like Usual, a 4-piece rock band from Swindon, and Collective, a girl band delivering high energy pop across Swindon and Wiltshire. Aquila – one of Britain’s top trampolining clubs - will be providing trampoline displays during the afternoon.
The main stage will be the centrepiece of the festival, but the festival will also offer the chance to get creative with a range of arts-based events, or to have fun on a massive 23ft high inflatable megaslide. For the more energetic, there will be the chance to get soaking wet at what could be the largest water fight in the county, and a volleyball competition for teams of any standard to enter.
“Rock the Planet will be the biggest community event we’ve ever organised” said festival organiser Hanna Koning. ‘Already young people from across Swindon and North Wiltshire are working hard to learn dance routines and create the right environment for the festival. And with 4 top quality local bands performing live on the main stage, and all the other events on offer, it promises to be a really exciting day!’
Hanna is working closely with local organisations and churches to make sure the festival delivers the best experience possible for young people and families. The festival will be themed around the 4 elements of classical Greek – earth, wind, fire and water. Festival-goers will have the chance to be in a fashion show, join dance and craft workshops and have a go at open air painting as well as enjoying the performances and fun activities on offer. For those who just want to chill there’s a café and food area on site.
